My Natural Deodorant Journey Part 1 ft. Lavanila The Healthy Deodorant

At first, I was hesitant to try out an all-natural deodorant. There are so many horror stories out there about stinking halfway through the day or staining favorite shirts or even sweating enough to warrant stains.

The desire to have a non-aluminum deodorant propelled me forward, so I went to the store, bought Lavanila The Healthy Deodorant in Vanilla Grapefruit ($14) and hoped for the best.

Unsurprisingly, it’s smaller and more expensive than my usual Dove deodorant. Just like eating fresh foods, using natural products is always a pricier option, but usually worth the few extra bucks.

The vanilla grapefruit smell is wonderful- it has to be in order to properly cover up natural B.O. I sniffed all the options before deciding to go with this one, primarily because it wasn’t as sickeningly sweet as the others.

When you first apply it, it tingles. You’ll want to make sure you wait until you’re completely dry after a shower to avoid uncomfortable stickiness. It doesn’t feel like normal deodorant at all, and it isn’t as strong either.

My first weekend using this was fine. I thought I had found the perfect natural alternative to my usual pick. It wasn’t until heading to work on Monday that I realized it doesn’t last through the whole day. Every five hours or so, you’ll need to reapply or else risk starting to smell.

In order to make this work, I had to pop it in my purse and be prepared to reapply whenever I felt it (or smelled it) wearing off. It also doesn’t prevent sweating, so be ready for that change of pace when you make the switch.

This deodorant will make your underarm skin soft and healthy, but at what cost? It’s pricier, smaller and less effective than average deodorant, which means you’ll have to apply it more and therefore run out of it faster.

I guess my search continues.
