Let’s talk about Tarte, baby.
Instead of my usual idle browsing at Ulta, I had a goal this week: I wanted to buy the perfect loose powder to compliment my Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint on days when my skin refuses to behave.
Don’t get me wrong; I love, love, love the easy, low maintenance skin tint and I doubt I’ll ever move on to any other liquid foundation. It’s the perfect amount of light coverage that hides redness without covering up my beloved freckles. The only problem with this nearly perfect formula is that sometimes, it just isn’t enough.
I left with two exciting purchases, telling myself that it’s okay to spend some money on myself this month because my birthday is coming up. Protip: always use your birthday as an excuse to constantly treat yourself. Sing it with me: treat yoself 2016!
It took a large chunk of time, a lot of product testing, a lot of review reading and hours spent ignoring bored sighs from my boyfriend, but I finally decided on a pair- Tarte’s Timeless Smoothing Primer ($39) and Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation in fair-light honey ($36)
My first impression of Tarte’s 12-hour full coverage weightless powder foundation was that I disliked the packaging. The mesh delivery system is more of a nuisance than a help and it had me craving the old school loose powder system.
The powder applied well with some buffering once I was able to get enough of the product on my brush. There are about a million and one shades to choose from, so be prepared to spend a long afternoon finding your perfect match. Don’t order online for this one, trust me. A store visit will ensure you pick the perfect color to match your skin tone.
The Amazonian clay in this formula is supposed to power up your complexion and give your skin rich dimension. These two claims were well-delivered, providing a soft, smooth, even look to my splotchy morning skin. I wouldn’t call this a full coverage foundation per se, but it worked perfectly in complimenting and setting the skin tint for a slightly dewey and even complexion.
I went into Tarte’s smoothing primer with no expectations. My experience with primers has never been anything above mediocre, so this soft, fluffy texture totally blindsided me with the way it melted right into my skin without leaving a greasy residue.
This primer was perfectly crafted by the talented folks over at Tarte and I don’t have a single bad thing to say about it. My skin looked better after one quick application of this vitamins C and E heavy product. The scent is delicious but not overwhelming and it hugely improved my makeup application.
Using these two products together with my Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint, I’ve figured out a quick and easy morning routine that leaves me looking glowy and awake.
