I turned 24 last week! Along with all the usual birthday perks such as acting like a princess all day and eating a huge yummy breakfast, there were very important matters to attend to- like collecting my free Ulta birthday gift.
In years past, Ulta has given away neutral colored eyeshadow palettes and a full-sized Calvin Klein mascara, both of which found a comfy place in my expansive makeup collection. I couldn’t wait to try out what they had in store for this year: Benefit Roller Lash Mascara ($17.50).
To say that I wasn’t bummed when I realized it was only a sample size would be a huge lie. I receive so many sample-sized products every month from Ipsy and Birchbox that it’s becoming overwhelming. Now I have another mini-mascara to add to the pile and as high-end as the brand is, I couldn’t help being a little bit disappointed with the freebie. I guess I’ve gotta take what I can get.
Disregarding the size, this mascara is like a little miracle in a tube. Roller Lash boasts that you’ll no longer have to use an eyelash curler to get the curl and definition that you crave from your eyelashes. As medieval and grotesque as eyelash curlers look from afar, they always get the job done quickly and effectively. This mascara rendered them completely useless, and I certainly wasn’t complaining when I was able to temporarily cut the old school beauty favorite from my routine.
The wand has teeny tiny bristles that look more like a comb, but that doesn’t stop them from providing extremely precise definition. This mascara made my eyes look more open, gave my lashes enviable curl and didn’t cause any unsightly clumping. The downside was again the size- I used it everyday this week and already I can sense the formula in the tube running out.
All in all, this was a cool birthday present from Ulta. If it had been a little bigger, it would have been perfect!
