My most recent attempt at a natural deodorant is yet another crowd favorite, known for it’s B.O.-nixing sans aluminum capabilities: Primal Pit Paste Stick in Thyme & Lemongrass ($10.95). I picked this one up at my local Whole Foods during a grocery trip. It comes in a stick form or a little jar; I went with the stick, assuming it would be easier, but now I’m not so sure it was the right choice.

My first stab at an all-natural deodorant was a crowd favorite: Lavanila The Healthy Deodorant. It worked pretty well in my experience, but more so for making my skin soft and moisturized rather than blocking odor. When it came to nixing B.O. and anti-perspiration, it tended to wear off around six hours in, at which point I’d quickly scurry into the bathroom and reapply.
When I ran out, I was eager to try something new, and I was desperately hoping for better results. My wallet couldn’t argue with a $4 non-aluminum alternative: Tom’s of Maine Long Lasting Deodorant. I had used Tom’s toothpaste before with success, so I had high hopes when I dropped this into my shopping cart.

At first, I was hesitant to try out an all-natural deodorant. There are so many horror stories out there about stinking halfway through the day or staining favorite shirts or even sweating enough to warrant stains.
The desire to have a non-aluminum deodorant propelled me forward, so I went to the store, bought Lavanila The Healthy Deodorant in Vanilla Grapefruit ($14) and hoped for the best.
